Movement Intelligence [MI] is defined as our inherent ability to fine tune the transformational process of converting our intentions into action — a nod to the Bodily-Kinesthetic modality from Howard Gardner’s book, Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences. MI integrates several kinesthetic concepts of the body: alignment, balance, endurance, flexibility, and strength. But beyond even those aspects, MI is a representation of the body’s innate ability to organically coordinate and course correct its internal functions in a graceful, encompassing way. Through our native capacity to communicate sensory-motor functionality from mind to body, MI promotes harmonic living and maximum efficacy of the human organism for a long, tenable subsistence.
Movement is a part of life, and our language of movement does not stop expanding after infancy. Our bodies are constantly honing our mobility skills, developing our “movement IQ” as our minds communicate with our bodies somatically. This allows for a satisfying and sustainable life that emphasizes thriving —not just surviving —while improving and refining our quality of movement through elegant fluidity and flexibility.
